A title card taken from the Center of Health Care Strategies' webinar titled, Braiding Funding Streams to Provide More Person-Centered Care for People with Complex Health and Social Needs
An informative webinar about using funding to provide person-centered care

Braiding funding from multiple sources can help health and social care organizations serve more people, offer more comprehensive services, and strengthen financial sustainability.

However, when organizations braid funding from county, state, and federal sources, careful tracking is necessary to ensure adherence to all contract requirements. In California, under the state’s CalAIM initiative to transform Medi-Cal (Medicaid) services, many health and social care organizations are braiding Medi-Cal and non-Medi-Cal funds to provide more person-centered care for people with a mix of medical, behavioral health, and social needs.

Braiding can be an especially effective strategy to better integrate services for people with complex needs — many of whom navigate multiple systems and experience fluctuating levels of need.

This Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) webinar, made possible by the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF), featured three organizations that braid funding: an organization serving older adults and people with disabilities, a housing-related service provider, and a specialty behavioral health provider. Speakers shared their approaches to braiding funding, along with strategies for mitigating contract-related risks and promoting efficiencies.
